Screen and Video Capture

Techsmith is the makers of award winning screen capture software. Snagit is for high end screen captures. Camtasia allows you to record screen activity in a video – great for usage guides, tech support, and so forth. I’ve used it to produce software demos to help people get up and running fast and not miss key features.  For high end projects, I once ported the video into Adobe Premier for editing but the newer Studio versions allow you to do much of that inside the software.  Even my non-geek boss produced a sophisticated menued CD for sales with Camtasia. You’ve undoubtedly seen Camtasia clips online in product demos or advertising.

Techsmith has a special deal available where you can download and register an older version for free.

Just download the demo version of SnagIt 7.2.5 or Camtasia 3.1.3. Then register SnagIt or Camtasia to get a registration code via e-mail that turns the demo into a fully functional version. During registration, you can optionally subscribe to their newsletter but that option is deselected by default. The registration key came in minutes with instructions for entering the key during installation.

As a bonus, you can upgrade for half price. Best way I know to get into top rated software.

Thanks to Steve Bass at ITBusiness.ca for the tip
