This page discusses and has a video of an experimental technology that creates a “pseudo-transparent” interactive surface. Fingers can be used for input on both front and back. The map section later in the video is notable. The tech is still early and impractical but shows some interesting potential.

The page also has a link to another more developed tech – inkSeine. Basically, this is more advanced pen based computing. While also in development, it gives a vision of where Tablet PC’s may be going. Or already is – a download is available now.  Assuming you have a Tablet PC with Vista. And understand that its experimental. See the FAQ’s.
