Image Preview

Building a new work system at the moment…

For a long time, I’ve been using ACDSEE’s mPower tools for quick right-click image preview (a large thumbnail). Used their Fox tool before that.  But they’ve stopped supporting it – indeed theres no sign of it on their site at all. Found a Shareware version but the registration doesn’t work the same way, so my old purchase is dead. mPower occasionally would annoy me, trying to play a large audio file or preview a big PDF when Iwas right clicking for something else, but I used it all the time. Very handy when hand coding.

Went to get XNView, a handy image viewer  and converter (the big tools from Adobe etc are good but slow for a quick job or rare file) and discovered they have a Shell Extension now too, for free. Somehow missed that before. While it doesn’t do some of the image manipulation mPower does, it has the handy right-click preview, with the added bonus of file size (bytes). And none of the lags from other formats.

I’m a happy camper again.
