Best Freeware

For a long time, the Tech Support Alert site has hosted its “46 best freeware” listings. For subscribers, there was an additional even larger section of recommendations. Gizmo gathered this info from his own testing and from reader recommendations. But the job got to be too much. He has requested editors to take over various software categories and has now moved the list to a single wiki. Its now in Beta testing, soon to go live. (he’s asked us not to link yet) “46 Best” is now at over 120 categories with some 500 recommendations. Some are simple – there really is only one decent free tool. Others list several alternatives, depending on your tastes and requirements. Its only occasionally I’ve found they didn’t cover the category I was interested in.

While you’re waiting, check out the link above for a good sample.
