Natural Clean Air

Another fascinating talk at TED, this one on creating clean indoor air with plants. Tested in a large building in Delhi, India, the results were significant health and productivity benefits.

3 common house plants is all it takes. The data he mentions:

1) Areca Palm (Chrysolidocorpus lutescens)  “The living room plant”
CO2 > O2
4 shoulder high plants per person
Wipe the leaves to clean once a week or more based on local air quality
Grow in “vemi” manure (sterile) or hydroponics
Take outdoors every 3-4 months.

2) Mother in Laws Tongue (Sansevieria trifasciata)  “The bedroom plant”
CO2 > O2 at night
6-8 waist high plants per person.

3) Money Plant (Epipremnum aureum)  “The Specialist Plant”
Preferably grow in hydroponics
removes volatile chemicals.

I believe this last one was the one placed in a highly polluted office I once worked it. Even one plant really helped.
